After Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju, it's Diljit Dosanjh who is back with another biopic film. Made on the life of ace hockey player, Sandeep Singh, Soorma stars Diljit Dosanjh, Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi in important roles. As per the critics, Diljit Dosanjh has delivered one of the finest performances of his career. The Sandeep Singh biopic has earned Rs 3.25 crore on its opening day and despite witnessing slow start in the morning show, Soorma picked its momentum by the evening. The film has done well mostly in the northern parts of the county. It did extraordinarily well in Punjab, given that Diljit is a popular name in that region.

Talking about film’s box-office numbers, a trade analyst wrote, “After a slow start in morning shows [North India opening was good due to Diljit Dosanjh’s stardom], #Soorma gathered momentum from evening onwards… Is looking at substantial growth on Sat and Sun thanks to strong word of mouth… Fri 3.25 cr. India biz.”

It would be interesting to see if the film manages to mint around Rs 10 crore over the weekend considering the film has mostly received positive reviews.  Soorma is a story about hockey player Sandeep Singh also known as Flicker Singh who was shot and put in a wheelchair but he emerged to get back on the field and represent India.

Talking about the film, Diljit had recently said in an interview, “The first scene right after the film resumes after the interval is one that audiences can’t afford to miss. It will bring every kind of emotion one has at the same time, it is that gripping. Also, if you miss that scene, you would have wasted your money on the ticket, which you bought to watch the film.”
