Bad Moms Christmas - Movie Review
'Bad Moms Christmas'
A; Comedy
Cast: Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Susan Sarandon, Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines, Peter Gallagher
Director: Jon Lucas, Scott Moore
Rating:
'Bad Moms' was a very bad movie -yet it did surprisingly well at the Box-office and so now we are being subjected to an even worse version of the same thing-a sequel, which has little reason to exist other than purely commercial. Nothing creative about this distastefully slapped together 'Hangover' for women where Mothers and Daughters go all out doing some truly weird things, making us painfully aware that Hollywood has reached the nadir where creative content is concerned.
This film has the original three Bad Moms, Amy(Mila Kunis), Kiki(Kirsten Bell) and Carla(Kathryn Hahn) - this time round, claiming under-appreciation and overburden, while rebelling against the challenges and expectations of Christmas. To complicate matters, their respective Moms come on board and their love-lives get harder to maintain.
It's a shoddy effort without laughs to shore it up but without the charismatic actors top-lining it, would have been a dead bore. Susan Sarandon as Carla's mother, Christine Baranski as Amy's mother and Cheryl Hines as Kiki's mother, may seem like mothers out of nightmare street, irritating to boot, but their performances can't be faulted. Mila, Kirsten and Kathryn shore up the rest even though there's not much purchase in the material, the direction or the treatment. The narrative lacks class, and is excessively distasteful and off-putting. You wouldn't want to put yourself through such a harrowing experience before Christmas..would you?
