There’s a lot being said about Priyanka Chopra‘s American accent for her show, Quantico, and other public appearances that she’s been doing. On the most recent episode of Koffee With Karan, which features her as the guest, Karan Johar asked her whether it’s “tiresome” when she has to put on the American accent. She revealed that it is, and said it required as much training to master that as it did for her role in Bajirao Mastani.

It’s very difficult. It’s as difficult as being Kashibai and having a Maharashtrian accent. I had a dialect coach there, and I have a dialect coach here. Yeah, you’re always acting – I had to learn how to say the words. It took me so long to say some of these words in American [accent]. The Rs have to be really soft, flowing words, and you have to make sure you don’t enunciate – which is the opposite of what I was taught growing up. When we go to school, we learn the Queen’s English as it’s called, so you have to enunciate your vowels and say your Ws and your Vs.

Of course, Karan – whose mind is clearly always in the gutter :) – said that she sounds erotic and asked whether that was part of her American accent. PC replied by saying that she can sound erotic in Hindi too, and it’s just her voice. Hah!
