Box Office: Dangal becomes the 3rd highest grosser of 2016; all set to challenge Sultan from tomorrow

The Nitesh Tiwari directed biopic Dangal that is based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat starring Aamir Khan in the lead role has been raking in the moolah at the box office. In fact the film which released on Friday last week made its way into the Rs. 100 Crore Club within three days of its release.

In this box office report we take a look at the collections of Dangal while comparing the same to releases of 2016. Not surprisingly Dangal that has been one of the most talked about and keenly awaited releases of the year has managed to claim the third spot as the highest grosser of 2016 collecting Rs. 132.43 cr in just four days. With the box office register jingling, Dangal that released across 4300 screens in India and 1000 screens in the overseas market has managed to surpass previous releases like Airlift that collected Rs. 128.1 cr, Rustom that collected Rs. 127.49 cr, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that collected Rs. 112.45 cr, Housefull 3 that collected Rs. 109.14 cr, Shivaay that collected Rs. 100.3 cr, and even Fan that collected Rs. 84.1 cr.

While the film marginally fails to surpass the collections of the Sushant Singh Rajput starrer M. S. Dhoni – The Untold Story that collected Rs. 133.04 cr, Dangal that still has a weeklong clear run at the box office looks set to challenge the collections of the Salman Khan starrer Sultan that collected Rs. 300.45 cr at the box office.
