Bollywood musicians mourn the loss of pop music’s greatest icon George Michael
Shekhar Ravjiani: “George Michael was an enormously talented man whose music formed the background score of our youth…a musician far ahead of his time who gave the youth of the world a voice through his own…A progressive and sensitive genius who has sadly gone too soon.”
Amit Trivedi: “George Michael’s music was a very important part of my growing up days…in college we use to sing and jam a lot on Last Christmas, Faith, Careless Whispers, Wake Me Up and so on… it’s very sad to know another young artist has left us so early…though his music will live forever.”
Vishal Dadlani: “It’s really tragic. One of the greatest singers and pop songwriters of all time, besides being an icon for the gay community. Genuine genius. 2016 really has been a hellish year for music.”
Amaal Malik: “Grown up listening to the man and his songs like Careless Whispers and Last Christmas, ironic he passed away around Christmas….The melody, the writing and the arrangement this man did for his songs, paved way for a lot of pop artists !He managed to do soul, R & B and always made a simple melody that reached out to everyone, and made 15 No. 1 songs and rocked the charts in the UK & the billboards of US.A sad day, a big loss….I think an artiste has so much more music within post 50, but maybe it was time !Really an inspiration over generations.”
Anu Malik: “A great singer/ writer/ song producer of his calibre comes once only ONCE in a blue moon.. And there are no blue moons. We have lost an iconic personality …. From FAITH To LAST CHRISTMAS. Devastated really…Gutted is the right word.”
Bappi Lahiri: “Great loss for World Music and the world of music. He was a real pop icon. This festive season of Christmas proved to be George Michael’s ‘Last Christmas’ .We all gave you our hearts and now you are gone. We will miss you. Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. We know you will be with us forever.”
Alisha Chinai: “There’s no comfort in the Truth……Pain is all you find….that’s what he sang.
Such a rebel and non-conformist …. He bent all the rules and lived life His Own Way….!! Gone too young too soon but his music lives on!!”
